How about a lil Disco? On today’s “Oldies Sunday“, we go back in time to a time when Jamaicans found success in the Disco era. Get ready to dance to Jesse Green’s “Nice & Slow“.

Produced by Ken Gibson and Dave Howman, “Nice & Slow” was released in 1976 through Scepter Records. Jesse Green made delivered some feel good vibes on “Nice & Slow”. With a solid production that included flutes and horns, and some soulful vocals, “Nice & Slow” became one that caught on to you quickly, and you can’t help but dance up a storm to. “Nice & Slow” was also featured as the opening track for the 1976 album of the same name. The track was a minor hit for Green having gained #1 placements in Belgium and in The Netherlands, but became an International hit when it was given a remix in later years. Jesse Green was a member of the vocal trio The Pioneers, and played Drums with Jimmy Cliff in the 1970s. He continued to release more music after “Nice & Slow”, and they have done relatively well in the US and the UK. One thing for sure, many still remember his hit from the Disco era.

FRIENDS ONLY is an LA based creative company founded by Natalie Prospere, and is partners with Mass Appeal Records, the label behind releases from Run The Jewels, Dave East, and its co-founder, Nas. Recently, the company announced a new product called, “Friends Only, Jamaica“. “Friends Only, Jamaica” is on a mission to bridge the gap between local talent in Jamaica, and visiting artists and producers from the U.S. As a part of the mission, a “Friends Only, Jamaica” compilation has been made, with the first single, “Never Be The Same” featuring Kabaka Pyramid, Medisun, Hector “Roots” Lewis, Buddy, and EarthGang released a few days ago. Today, we get to see the official Music Video.

Directed by Nickii Kane and shot in Ocho Rios, we’re given a BTS look at how the track was put together. The video finds the Artists writing and recording their parts over the Dre Day production, and we see some unity and good vibes throughout. Producers Universvl ZincFence and J.L.L., Recording Artist Lucky Daye, and Reggae Artist Chronixx make appearances in the visual, and just by watching we know the recording sessions were a lot of fun. We look forward to the full “Friends Only, Jamaica” compilation when it hits the streets and streams in 2022.

Dancehall Producers Raph and Zack Ariyah are known as the Production duo, Gold Up. Formed in 2018, Gold Up quickly found their lane when they made their debut with then rising sensation, Shenseea. Since then, they have scored hits with Shatta Wale, Chronic Law, Aidonia, ZJ Liquid, and Busy Signal. Still hungry for more wins, they found another hit with Dancehall Artist Laa Lee for the single, “Bird“.

Influenced by the South African Qqom, Gold Up made the perfect Riddim that compliments Laa Lee’s catchy lyrics as he has found himself another dance hit. Seeing his career skyrocket this year with the release of “Dirt Bounce” and “Tip Inna It“, Laa Lee used his winning formula to bring Dancer 1Monsta Boss‘ “Bird” Dance to a new level. Accompanying the new single, is an energetic music video that was directed by Shot ‘N Stunning that features appearances by 1Monsta Boss, Dancer Pata Skeng, and well known Dancehall Promoter Walk N Talk. It has been a couple weeks since Reggae/Dancehall Artist Bugle released his latest album, “Toxicity“, and the people are loving it. With placements on various Playlists, DJs showing the album love on their sets, and people sharing their favourites through Social Media, Bugle has found it yet again with the new release. Having given the world plenty content during the rollout, he is not taking his foot off the gas just yet. For his latest piece, we get the music video for the track, “Prenup“.

Directed by Shervel Thesheep, Bugle tackles the topic of Marriage here. With Divorces surging yearly, Bugle brings his words to life by showing us a Marriage that was supposed to be promising, but is ending terribly through infidelity. Bugle has been pushing quality visuals to accompany his music for years, and we know you will enjoy this one. The “Toxicity” album is available everywhere, so get familiar if you haven’t yet.

The Tiger & The Buffalo Meta Commercial for 13thStreetPromotions.com #Meta

“Under Mi Sleng Teng” Sampled “Way In My Brain” Featured In New @Meta Commercial!

Recently, the company behind Social Media platform Facebook changed its name to Meta as a way to promote better online experiences, and change the way you see Social Media. While the platform has been a part of numerous controversies, only time will tell how things will turn out. As a part of Meta’s rollout, a series of promotional spots have been launched. For one of their latest Commercials, a sound from the home of Dancehall and Reggae has been easily identified.

In Meta’s latest Commercial called “The Tiger & The Buffalo“, the 1991 Electronic/Dance/Rave track “Way In My Brain” by Breakbeat Hardcore group SL2 was used for the soundtrack. Produced by Slipmatt & Lime and released through XL Recordings, the UK single sampled the Jamaican classic, “Under Mi Sleng Teng“. “Under Mi Sleng Teng” was done by Wayne Smith in 1984 (released in 1985), and produced by King Jammys on the “Sleng Teng Riddim“, which was considered one of the fully computerized Riddims. The “Sleng Teng Riddim” is also one of the most influential Riddims, giving birth to many versions, and producing many great Artists in the process.
