NEW MUSIC: @IamTheKartel – Mr. Bleach Chin

I can safely say Vybz Kartel is the 2013 Tupac Shakur with his tremendous work ethic. With the Government adding new taxes to more products and services and no increase in pay, many of us really wished we could inherit 1 billion dollars. Titled “Mr. Bleach Chin“, Kartel envisions himself to become a Billionaire like Jamaican Michael Lee-Chin but would refer to himself as “Mr. Bleach Chin“. Entertaining song, still good to hear new material from the World Boss regardless of his current situations. Check out the song below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

NEW VIDEO: @IamTheKartel x @OfficialDJPower – Make Up (Dir. By @Byrd_Villain x @ErnieDark)

Now this is something you don’t see everyday. Since he is currently in jail it hasn’t stopped Vybz Kartel from appearing in music videos, in any way possible. Titled “Make Up” which features DJ Power and is directed by Byrd Villain and Ernie Dark, this is an animation that has a Cinderella look to it. In the video a young woman wants to go out and have fun and express herself but someone prevents her from so until one night she runs away only to find herself at a party and does everything she wants to do. Very interesting video and Byrd Villain is well known in Jamaica for his animations. Check out the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

NEW VIDEO: @NoiseyMusic Jamaica Dancehall Show: Episode 4: @SpiceOfficial x @TifaMusic

noisey1

Noisey Jamaica today venutred into the female side of Dancehall Music. Here Codine Williams interviewed popular deejays Spice and Tifa before their rehearsals for Reggae Sumfest. Here Tifa spoke about feuds in Dancehall music, getting a break in the industry as a female artist, and backlash from fellow artists and fans. Spice spoke  about her upbringing, her biggest hit “Ramping Shop” with Vybz Kartel, showing support for Vybz Kartel, being compared to Lil Kim with her raunchy lyrics, and Jamaicans being creative with slangs and dances. We also see Spice dancing with her backup dancers and how she interacts with them. I like that their music was featured in these interviews, just wished it was longer. Check out the video below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

OLDIES SUNDAY: @DawnPennMusic – No No No (1994)

Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from a great singer, Dawn Penn. Titled “No No No” and produced by Steely and Clevie, this is a remake of her 1967 single “You Don’t Love Me” which was produced by Sir Coxsone Dodd. Here she sings about lost love and going through the feelings of losing that loved one.

No No No” became a huge hit for Dawn Penn and became her signature song. It became a #1 song on the Jamaican Music charts and reaching as far as #3 on the UK Music charts. It also made it to the music charts in Japan, Canada, and many areas in Europe. The song was so popular that it has been sampled and covered by many artists including Jae Millz, Ghostface Killah, Rihanna, Lily Allen, Eve, and many others. Dawn Penn went on to release an album of the same name and included the hit, the album went on to receive a Grammy nomination.

Dawn Penn continued to release songs and albums over the years which includes her latest single called “City Life” and even though she hasn’t performed in Jamaica in years, her song still manages to be played on the radio and at dances. She currently resides in London where she still writes and performs.

Thank You Dawn Penn for your classic song.

Everyone falls in love sometimes, I don’t know bout you but it ain’t a crime…” Remember this song? This was done by the Jamaican Singer and Deejay duo Tanto Metro and Devonte. Many of us haven’t heard from them in years but Winford Williams managed to get them together for a short interview on Onstage. Here they talk about being away from the Jamaican music scene for the past few years, their change in management, their comeback campaign which includes a new album, and featured contributors to their album. They also premiered their video for a single called “Already Know“. Good to see them back and I do hope they are well received by the fans old and new alike.
