OLDIES SUNDAY: @KingBeenieMan – Maestro (1996)

On today’s Oldies Sunday, we look back at a single from the “Doctor“, Beenie Man! Recently he celebrated his 44th birthday, and we wanted to show love to one of the living Legends of Dancehall. Today we look at “Maestro“, an Opera inspired single that was produced by Patrick Roberts for Shocking Vibes Production on the “Sore Riddim” and released in 1996. Here Beenie further proclaims being “The Girls Dem Sugar” and shows love to the ladies who command attention, and are the “Wife” type. What really makes this single stand out, is Beenie’s delivery which is similar to an Opera Singer’s. “Maestro” was the first track featured on Beenie Man’s 1996 Album of the same name.

The last time we heard Rapper Busta Rhymes tap into his Jamaican side was when he collaborated with Spice was on “So Mi Like It (Remix)“, and with Vybz Kartel on “Twerk It (Remix)“. Well today, he teams up again with the latter and Canadian Recording Artist Tory Lanez on “Girlfriend”(Get your copy here). Produced by Rockwilder who tears roofs off with his beats, Busta shows us why his musical career has spanned 20 years as he fires off another banger! Adding Patois to his lyrics, and speaking on bringing his Girlfriend to meet his “Mada down a country“, Busta delivers effortlessly. With the “World Boss” and “Fargo” adding their brand of dopeness to the track, this promises to burn up the airwaves, and flow through every headphone and speaker for the rest of 2017 worldwide! Good to hear Vybz Kartel on another International track despite his current situation, and Tory using his Caribbean influences. US Recording Artist Mario has been busy lately. After releasing “Let Me Help You” last year off his upcoming “Cosmo 17” Album, he felt the Caribbean heat and called up Dancehall Artist Konshens for the remix! While the track already has an Island feel to it, Konshens steps in to sprinkle his Jamaican element to it. A song about being a selfless lover, Mario aims to make this another member of his hit collection this year. The Jamaican influence continues to make its move, stay tuned for another one. After waking up Jamaica with his crimson tinged single earlier this year, the official visual for Protoje’s “BLXXD MONEY” is finally here! Directed by Che Kothari with Production by Claire Osman, viewers get a glimpse of the many forms of corruption, a broader look than the lyrics which spoke about corruption in high places, and the various turns made throughout its running time. The video targets every class, and those who practice the dirty ways will eventually see a fall. A statement making song that turned into a powerful video, more like “What A BLXXDCLXXT Film“!
