In recognition of Shaggy’s 20 year anniversary of his “Oh Carolina” hit, I thought I might give you all the original version. Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from The Folkes Brothers, the original artists behind the “Oh Carolina” single. The Folkes Brothers comprised of John, Mico, and Junior Folkes. Produced and released by Prince Buster in 1960, this is a love song where the artists are here urging Carolina to come back into the lead singer’s life after having bouts of sadness and loneliness.

On today’s episode of Noisey Jamaica Dancehall Show Gaza Slim is the featured artist. We see Codine Williams, Slim and crew situated at a courthouse in Kingston where Vybz Kartel attended a court date. Here Gaza Slim told Codine about her start in the music business, meeting Vybz Kartel, his incarceration, members of the Portmore Empire, her “Addi” tattoo, and other things. They also visited the West Bank community in Portmore and spoke to a few of Kartel’s fans and learned of the impact Kartel has on the community. It’s always great when Jamaicans can go to anywhere in the world and make their families, country and themselves proud. Today on Onstage Winford Williams interviews the lovely Steffani Walters. Here she announced that apart from doing Reggae music, she has signed on to be a part of the Broadway version of The Lion King cast in Germany. She also spoke on the details and duties in her role as a member of the Lion King cast and her career as a Reggae Artist. Short but nice interview, I do wish her the best and she started in Jamaica. Off the newly released “8 Year Affair” album Reggae singer Protoje released his music video for “I & I“. Directed by I & I & I (i’m guessing Protoje directed this), we see him and a few friends walking the streets and spreading messages and pamphlets out to people in efforts to help them learn about Marcus Garvey, Walter Rodney and Haile Selassie I. This video features cameos from Jah 9, Kabaka Pyramid, Chronixx and many others. As described by Protoje this was more than a video shoot, it was also a march that done in collaboration with author Dutty Bookman.
