@PopcaanMusic Selects The Hits On @OVOSound Radio Ep. 25!

Over the weekend, the “Unruly Boss” Popcaan made a guest appearance on Drake’s “OVO Sound Radio“. The nearly 3 hour long Programme also featured two sets from host Oliver El-Khatib as he mixed new music from popular and emerging Artists in Hip Hop. Popcaan’s Dancehall set however featured some of his old and new singles including “Ova Dweet“, “Unruly Prayer“, “World Cup“, “Fall In Love“, “Wicked Man Ting“, his collaborations including Aluna George’s “I’m In Control“, “Bad A Road” featuring Kiprich and Jah Son, the remix to Drake’s “Controlla“, Dosa Medicine’s “Badman“, and of course the now infamous “One Dance” Dubplate used at the recently held Red Bull Culture Clash. Listeners who were not fully familiar with Popcaan were treated to a crash course of sorts while fans raved as they heard their favourite Artist’s songs on the very popular show. You couldn’t deny the “Controlla” single in 2016. From what started as a leak has become a single that blew up everywhere! Created by Drake (duh!), this was a single to boost the anticipation of his 4th album, “Views“. Of course when it comes to hit songs, there will be remixes, covers, and clones (lol Tyga). While we won’t get into the other story/controversy with “Controlla” (maybe next time, Mr. Vegas), we’ll recruit 4 very popular versions in a Battle Royale! Up for Battle are Drake (Original), Popcaan (Featured on leak/suggested to be a Remix although edited versions created waves), Royal Blu (Who garnered an underground following for his version), and Tory Lanez (Who has recently revealed his own Canadian/Jamaican Dancehall styled version). Woiyoii! A single that has created a wave of buzz thanks to its intro. From viral videos to new slang, Popcaan finally released his Music Video for “Wicked Man Ting“. Directed by RD Studios, the “Unruly Boss” pays homage to well known communities in Jamaica, and the individuals who reside in them. Joined by his Unruly affiliates and fellow Musical peers, Popcaan strolls through different communities the “Unruly” way. With his name being the topic of many conversations recently due to certain song with a certain Canadian Rapper, Poppy will only do what he signed up for, and that is to make great music! The “Soca Viking” Bunji Garlin and the “Gongzilla” Damian Marley finally present to you the visuals for their collaborative effort titled “The Message“! The video was directed by Gabriel Ti Nagee and Walt Lovelace and features a slew of cameos from the likes Popcaan, Majah Hype, Sizzla, Fay-Ann Lyons, Edley Shine and Notch of Born Jamericans, Crys Holder, and many more. A Ballet Troupe was also featured and comprised of young women spreading the message in the form of dance! In the video Bunji and Damian share their own Social Commentary and show that unity is strength from Port of Spain to Hellshire, to the rest of the world! Recently, popular Canadian Media Personality Nardwuar Interviewed the “6 God” Drake, and friend and longtime Producer Noah “40” Shebib. Filmed in Toronto, Canada a.k.a. “The 6ix“, Drake and 40 shared with Nardwuar some aspects of their backgrounds including growing up and 40 and Drake’s first record, “Views“, their influences including the late Rapper Biggie Smalls, Common, the Houston, Toronto, and Memphis Hip Hop scenes, and the Reggae/Dancehall including acts like King Tubby, Mavado, Popcaan, and Vybz Kartel. Drake also mentioned having conversations about Vybz Kartel’s music with fellow Artist PartyNextDoor, and being a fan of King Tubby’s music. It’s an hour long video, so be sure to tune in. It’s no secret that Hip Hop Artist Drake is a fan of Jamaica’s music culture. From his choice of slang, to his affiliations, to his hometown being chock full of the Jamaican influence, it’s only right that his “Views” album gets some of the essence. Off the recently released album, Dancehall Artist Mavado is featured on Views’ 2nd track, “9“. “9” features a sample from the Deejay’s 2007 single “Dying” off his “Gangsta For Life” debut album. “Dying” was produced by DASECA Productions and features Serani. It’s not the first time both Artists have crossed paths as Mavado played a role in Drake’s “Find Your Love” video off “Thank Me Later“, and Drake was a guest during Mavado’s set at “Britjam 2011“. “Views” also sampled Beenie Man’s “Tear Off Mi Garment” on an updated version of “Controlla” which was previously leaked with Dancehall Artist Popcaan. “Controlla” also gave writing credits to Jamaican Producer Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor and Supa Dups. “Tear Off Mi Garment” was produced by Patrick Roberts and was released in 1995 on the “Urkle Riddim“. Popcaan’s “Love Yuh Bad” is also sampled on the Rihanna assisted “Too Good” and also includes Supa Dups in the writing credits. The track was produced by Dre Skull and is featured on Popcaan’s debut album, “Where We Come From“. Popcaan is currently affiliated with Drake’s OVO group. “Views” is now available on iTunes.
