Today’s new music comes from Reggae artist Jah Cure and R&B Singer Jazmine Sullivan. Titled “Choose Up” and produced by Jus Bus, this is a song where two people have feelings for one another but one has a partner and a decision needs to be made. As Cure said, “You have to know who your heart beats for…“. This is a great song from two very talented artists in Jah Cure bringing his energy and Jazmine with her soul. OLDIES SUNDAY: Garnet Silk – Mama (1992)


In celebration of Mothers’ Day I feature another song as a tribute to mothers, this time it’s done by the late Garnet Silk. Titled “Mama” and produced by Courtney Cole in 1992, this was a cover version of Clarence Carter’s hit “Patches” which was done in 1970. “Patches” was also a cover of Chairmen of the Board’s hit which was also done in 1970. In the song Garnet sings about his mom being there for him all his life and even though his father died when he was very young his mom played both parental roles. He also sang about working hard to take care of his mom in return.

Today’s mixtape comes from Reggae singer Dax Lion. Titled “Rise Natty” and mixed by Supa Nova, this is 17 tracks promoting consciousness, positivity, clean lyrics and Rastafarianism. Featuring acts such as Judah Tribe, Iyah Gift, Eddie-B and Biggz General, this is a wonderful effort from the young artist. Titled “Lighters Up” and produced by DJ Frass, this is a song that aims to uplift people and encourage many to get out of the dark and into the light, to throw away the bad that darkened their past and move mountains in the present to have a bright future. It’s a real nice song, with positive lyrics that many would love and play numerous times. This song could even be used as a theme song for a talk show so producers get your cheque books ready. In recognition of May being Child’s Month I present to you a hit from a great Reggae act, Tony Rebel. Titled “Teach The Children” which was produced by Bobby Digital (Digital B) and released in 1994, this is message music encouraging good upbringing of children. He speaks on the action of adults being a influence to children along with the saying “If you want a good cow, you better grow a good calf“.  Watch what you say to children, they need guidance and good upbringing.

OLDIES SUNDAY: @SizzlaKalonji – Black Woman And Child (1996)


Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from a legendary Reggae Artist, Sizzla Kalonji. Titled “Black Woman And Child” which was produced by Bobby Digital and released in 1996, we hear Sizzla showing love and appreciation for the black woman, promoting consciousness, Africa as the mother of all mankind, and Queen Omega. “Black Woman And Child” is one of Sizzla’s most popular singles and is a part of 2nd album of the same name which was released in 1997.
