With 120 students to cater to, the Riverton Meadows Early Childhood Centre needs all the help it can get for its breakfast feeding programme, and the critical projects that allow the institution to adequately meet the needs of students. For the last 18 years, IGL through its charitable arm, IGL Ignite Foundation has been leading a team of staff members to the institution annually, donating cash to the breakfast feeding programme and volunteering time to feed and read to the students.
The IGL executives presented a cheque valued at $300,000 to the Centre, on Tuesday, May 30 to fund the breakfast feeding programme for another year; as well as one year’s supply of LPG. Twenty volunteers including IGL staff members and IGL medical and nursing scholarship recipients from the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona journeyed to the Riverton Meadows Early Childhood Centre and were received with open arms by the enthusiastic students and the grateful staff members.
“We are extremely proud that IGL as a corporate company responded to our plea 18 years ago to assist with providing a balanced and nutritious meal for over 60-75 students on a daily basis,” said Junior Rowe, Principal, Riverton Meadows Early Childhood Centre, an institution owned and managed by the St. Patrick’s Foundation. “IGL has not wavered since the start of this partnership, and that they continue to give valuable time and resources to make our breakfast feeding programme a success, even with the increase in our school population,” said Rowe who has been with the institution over 40 years.
