OLDIES SUNDAY: Frankie Paul – Sara (1987) (R.I.P. Jamaican Stevie Wonder)

Today’s Oldies Sunday pays respect to one of Jamaica’s greatest Vocalists, the one they called the “Jamaican Stevie Wonder“, the late Frankie “Dancehall” Paul. The Singer recently passed away after battling a long ailment, and the news sent shock waves all over the world. Having been born blind, Frankie showed many that you can still be great no matter your circumstance. Possessing a love for singing, he impressed Recording Artist Stevie Wonder during a visit to his school in Jamaica, and was inspired to pursue a Music career. Releasing multiple singles and Albums over the years, Frankie went on to be an influence for many of the Dancehall/Reggae Vocalists that followed. Having worked with almost every Producer and Record Label in Jamaica, Frankie Paul was a household name and ultimately a Legend.

As a part of keeping his spirit alive, we present to you “Sara”, his 1987 hit which was a cover of US Rock Band Starship’s single. The track was produced by King Jammy for his Jammys Label and was a part of Paul’s 1987 “Live And Love” Album.

Walk Good, Frankie Paul!

Citi Dancers Cause An Upset In @DancinDynamites Finals!

It was an intense battle to be remembered at the Charles Chocolates Dancin’ Dynamites finals held at the Jamaica College Auditorium on Sunday May 14. While it was a day for the Mothers who were warmly welcomed, the finalists put on a show for everyone as they vied for the top prize. While the teams Too Cool (St. Mary), Dynamic D Squad (Portland) were impressive, it was the Montego Bay based Citi Dancers who caused an upset and emerged as the title winners over Kingston based Fantastic Steppaz who were a favourite throughout the season! Citi Dancers have now earned bragging rights, over $1 Million in cash and prizes, and will move on to expanding their brand. Attendees were also treated to performances by the likes of Recording Artists I-Octane, Rondell Positive, and Jah’lil. Congratulations Citi Dancers!

@TwinOfTwins Return With Vol. 11 In Their “Stir It Up” Series!

Update Again: In A Few Hours!

Update: Delays

If you do not know TWIN OF TWINS you must live under a rock and even so I think the rock would surely attest to the significance of these brothers to the Jamaican culture through their popular hit series STIR IT UP that holds the attention of Jamaicans since its inception in the mid 90s. The Twin of Twins are set to release their eleventh installment of their highly anticipated STIR IT UP (Volume 11) and the fans are in a frenzy. We caught up with Patrick (Curly Lox the Voice Box) Gaynor earlier this week. When quizzed about why they took nearly four years to release another volume after the tremendous success of Volume 10 and all the volumes before? Gaynor explained that they’ve been going through a lot considering and reconsidering where the work is concerned. He went on to say that sometimes he feels that the work is not worth his time, effort, finance and resources that he personally put into these projects.

We sympathize with those who are having it hard at this time, and we hope some well needed relief comes your way! Check out the songs! Stay dry!

Bless Up: 5 @Sizzla876 Hip Hop Collabs!

Recently, a few pictures made its way onto the Internet hinting DJ Khaled’s upcoming collaboration with Reggae Legend, Sizzla Kalonji! With it possibly appearing on the DJ’s forthcoming “Grateful” Album, fans were overjoyed as Khaled has shown love to the Artist via his various Social Media outlets. While it’s no strange thing here, Sizzla has been a go to collaborator for years in Hip Hop along with a couple of his fellow peers, Junior Reid and Barrington Levy. He also enjoyed his share of hit songs being sampled in many Rap singles. Sizzla was also a signee of Rap Mogul Dame Dash’s now defunct “Dame Dash Music Group”. Below we feature 5 of Sizzla’s Hip Hop collaborations.

1. Shottas – Juelz Santana ft. Sizzla & Cam’Ron (2005)

2. Give Me A Try (Remix) – Sizzla ft. Rihanna (2003)
