Straight out of Montego Bay comes a triple threat that doesn’t play when it comes to dropping bars. Under the name “KMT” comes MoulaDiDon, Tazz and Karma Crew with their “3 Eyes EP“. Featuring 8 tracks with each rapper bringing everything in their arsenal except the kitchen sink, KMT shows us that they rep where they’re from to the fullest and they’re hungry for all the opportunities they deserve in music. Get to know them as they all produced solo efforts via their “United Empire“, “High Tunez Gang” and “876 Beats And Records” teams respectively. OLDIES SUNDAY: @CharMaxRomeo – Chase The Devil (1976)

Today’s Oldies Sunday selection comes from “The Son Of Selassie” a.k.a. Max Romeo. Titled “Chase The Devil“, this was produced by Lee “Scratch” Perry with backing by “The Upsetters” band in 1976 for Island Records. It was also a single included in Max’s 4th studio album, “War Inna Babylon“. The song brings forth a “Good conquering evil” theme where the Devil is being a negative force on Earth and when Max dons his Iron shirt, he will fight the Devil and send him to outer space. Max later explained that the Devil is everything negative in our minds and the Iron shirt is our strength of spirit that allows one to cast out the Devil.

NEW MUSIC: @Slim_ID – Energy Freestyle

Today’s new music comes from Jamaican Hip Hop artist, Slim I.D. Freestyling over Drake’s “Energy” where producers Mercutio and Dennis added their spin on it, Slim drops witty lines about enemies, fake friends trying to take away his energy, getting girls even with owning a Blackberry, and running the game even when he’s not at the forefront. Slim I.D. may have taken a stab at the “IYRTITL” track, but which beat is next? He aims to broaden his reach this year with his clever rhymes and working with great producers. OLDIES SUNDAY: Happy Birthday @HarryBelafonte x Banana Boat Song (1956)

Today’s Oldies Sunday is dedicated to Singer, Actor and Activist, Harry Belafonte who celebrates his 88th birthday. His most famous song, “Banana Boat Song (Day O)” is the featured selection. Released in 1956 by RCA and written by Irving Burgie and William Attaway, this was adapted from the song Jamaican Banana Workers would sing while they toiled on the docks. The song was also featured on Belafonte’s million unit selling “Calypso” album. Harry achieved great success with this single as it peaked at #5 on the Billboard charts in 1957, made its debut performance on The Muppet Show, made an appearance in the 1988 film “Beetlejuice“, has over the years been covered by many artists, and sampled by Lil Wayne on the track “6 Foot 7 Foot“. Despite the previous version of the song and the covers, Harry Belafonte’s version stood out the most and has become one of his signature songs.

Staying higher than mountains today are I Octane, Alkaline and Mavado. In what a few would call an unlikely combination comes “Above Them“. Produced by DJ Frass Records, we hear the trio speak on elevating themselves, looking back at their struggles, achieving success and laughing at those who try to stop them. Interesting to hear these three on one track, but they make it work over a dope DJ Frass production.
