OLDIES SUNDAY: Garnet Silk – Mama (1992)

In celebration of Mothers’ Day I feature another song as a tribute to mothers, this time it’s done by the late Garnet Silk. Titled “Mama” and produced by Courtney Cole in 1992, this was a cover version of Clarence Carter’s hit “Patches” which was done in 1970. “Patches” was also a cover of Chairmen of the Board’s hit which was also done in 1970. In the song Garnet sings about his mom being there for him all his life and even though his father died when he was very young his mom played both parental roles. He also sang about working hard to take care of his mom in return.

A happy Mothers’ Day to all mothers out there and as a show of appreciation, 13thStreetPromotions posts one of two songs. The first song comes from singer OMI and is titled “My Old Lady (A Tribute To All Mothers)“. Produced by Oufah Productions, this is OMI taking the time out to say thanks, being forever in debt and showing so much love to his mom and encouraging others to do the same as well. Today’s mixtape comes from Reggae singer Dax Lion. Titled “Rise Natty” and mixed by Supa Nova, this is 17 tracks promoting consciousness, positivity, clean lyrics and Rastafarianism. Featuring acts such as Judah Tribe, Iyah Gift, Eddie-B and Biggz General, this is a wonderful effort from the young artist. Shine your lights! Today’s new music comes from Alaine and I Octane. Titled “Lighters Up” and produced by DJ Frass, this is a song that aims to uplift people and encourage many to get out of the dark and into the light, to throw away the bad that darkened their past and move mountains in the present to have a bright future. It’s a real nice song, with positive lyrics that many would love and play numerous times. This song could even be used as a theme song for a talk show so producers get your cheque books ready. Mixtape Movements: @IamVindon – DemiGod

Today’s new mixtape comes from Blu Rok rapper Vindon and who would’ve thought he’d be interested in Greek Mythology. Titled “DemiGod“, this is 12 tracks of some long awaited music from the Jamaican rapper. With subject lines ranging from motivation music to weed songs, girl song and crew raps, he aims to cover all bases with this release. Featuring production from SOS Dynamikz and features from Eon Smith, Hard Dayz, Dinho and others, Vindon made sure made enough material for ample listen. While you may not find references to Greek Gods and a few may notice he’s inspired by a few popular acts, I believe you should give him a try If you’ve never heard any of his previous efforts. Titled “Right Wine” and produced by TJ Records, this is one of Kartel’s girl tunes where he encourages the ladies to keep dancing and keep him excited. Nice upbeat rhythm and it’s a summer song which should be very popular at upcoming parties. Ladies get your short shorts ready and dance for the World Boss.
