The Summer holidays are over, but in this Covid 19 world, everyone’s stuck inside. With Schools and jobs handling (most) things the online way, we’re seeing the “new norm” everyday. Nonetheless, creators create, and many of them released music in time for Summer 2020 in Jamaica. Today, we look back at a few tracks that were released in the 2nd Volume of the “Las’ Lick Playlist“!

Following up the 2018 Playlist, this 2020 edition features 32 tracks from Jamaican artists. Whether your taste is Dancehall, Reggae, Pop, or Hip Hop, you get dope offerings from emerging artists like Royal Blu, Leno Banton, Blvk H3ro, and Skillibeng, to established acts like Protoje, Beenie Man, Aidonia, Vybz Kartel, and Popcaan, to new acts like Marcilli, Prizal, Niyne, and GyalKapone. King Cruff Gets Into A “Blackberry Groove” On Latest Single!

Canada based Rapper King Cruff (f.k.a. Solyd Roy) has been keeping himself busy this year. While his output wasn’t heavy early on, he looks to make a statement with upcoming releases. One of the releases is the new single called, “Blackberry Groove“.

Produced by Teej a.k.a. Teej Made The Beat, King Cruff put together a track will surely light a fire in you to get moving. With a bass heavy production, this will rattle speakers, rooms, and your ear drums. When speaking about the creative process for the track, King Cruff shared, “I always find it interesting when a song has the overall vibe of being happy, but when you really pree the lyrics, there’s a touch of melancholy in there. That’s exactly how Blackberry Groove came about. When me and Smoothe locked into the studio session, I was feeling a bit disconnected from everything around me. So I tapped into that feeling, and wrote lyrics that would uplift myself, and anybody else who has that type of anxiety“. Accompanying the single is a music video directed by Lighter Juice that plays around with a lot of 3D work. Whether performing at the beach or running with the Lions, King Cruff brings new energy and vibes, and wants to get you into a “Blackberry Groove”! Be on the lookout for more from King Cruff!

Continuing the momentum of dropping new music this year is Chase Soundz! His last track added some strength to the Black Lives Matter movement, and now he’s back to flexing a lil over the beats on the “Chef Chef Freestyle“!

Borrowing the “Paper Rock Alumni” beat from Las Vegas Rapper Shaw Monsta, Chase gets to cooking on the beat as he proclaims to be a Chef with the similes and anecdotes. The Texas based artist focuses on being one of the more lyrical artists in a scene that’s slowly gaining back its due respect. a member of the HTG group with Chance and Daley HTG, be on the look out for more offerings from Chase Soundz!

Junior Reid is not only a Reggae legend, he’s also a Hip Hop legend when you think about it. He has enjoyed a run in the last 15+ years that saw him being the go to artist for hooks and verses on tracks by Fabolous, The Game, MIMS, Alicia Keys, Lil Wayne and more. While he still stays true to his Reggae roots, he tackles the emerging NY Drill movement on, “Bag Alert“.

Released through Massive B and produced by Bobby Konders, Junior Reid gets to the money with fellow artists Chedda Boss and Scrilla in an exhibition of the OG keeping up with the young boys, without missing his steps. Don’t expect to hear Junior Reid rapping here, he gives us that pure delivery that gave him so many hits over the years. With a 40+ year career, it’s still good that he can embrace the new generations of artists. R.I.P. Pop Smoke, and free Bobby Shmurda!

Recording Artist HeartBreakQuotey was a young legend in Toronto, Canada. For those who knew him, he was always making things happen, and lit up the scene. An artist who stayed on the grind over the years, he gave listeners a style that wasn’t like anyone else’s. Sadly, he passed away recently, and to keep his name alive, his brother and Producer DJ Blkluos released the project called, “2 Fly 2 Be Broke“.

Featuring 12 tracks, listeners will get a chance to learn what goes on in the mind of HBQ. With production from DJ Blkluos, Ryan Whiskey, and JaymeFromThe9, we get a dose of throwback Hip Hop, Trap, and R&B sounds that do a great job of backing up HBQ’s lyrics. The mixtape also has guest appearances from DopeFa$e, Enaledge, 73V1NN, Jane Doe Smith, and Joe Law who made sure it was extra fire. While death may affect us in various ways, it’s always best to cherish to good times of the ones you’ve lost. For new and old fans of HeartBreakQuotey, we ask you like him live on through the music.
