2017 Faves: @Protoje – BLOOD MONEY (#1)

As 2017 comes to a close, we look back at a few songs that were favourites on the Blog for the year. While we can’t name EVERY one, we’ll give you 5 (in no particular order so hold off on the ego) to reminisce on, or get familiar with.

Ending our list today is the one they call “Diggy British“, Protoje with “BLXXD MONEY (a.k.a. BLXXD MONEY)”! Produced by Winta James and released in February, Protoje sees red as he calls out Corruption, Classism, Injustice, and those who practice it in Jamaica. From Government leaders to those names in high places, Protoje starts a revolution, and wants you to be a part of it. Protoje never watched no face when rinsing this tune this year as he has painted the scene red at Festivals, Radio stops, and even at the recently held Prime Minister’s Youth Awards Ceremony. A tune that lifted the veil for many this year. Thank you for checking out our “2017 Faves“(see the rest here). We hope you enjoyed our selections, and we wish you an awesome 2018! Check out “BLXXD MONEY” below!

2017 Faves: @JeebyLyricist – Mobaby (#3)

As 2017 comes to a close, we look back at a few songs that were favourites on the Blog for the year. While we can’t name EVERY one, we’ll give you 5 (in no particular order so hold off on the ego) to reminisce on, or get familiar with.

Taking the 3rd spot today is Jeeby Lyricist with “Mobaby“! Inspired by Recording Artist Jidenna’sBambi“, Jeeby teamed up with Producer The Kash (who remade the Instrumental) in May/June to speak on the ills that affect his hometown of Montego Bay, St. James. He even speaks on them through the role of a Scammer. Many come to Jamaica thinking it’s all white sandy beaches, continuous partying, and chill vibes. Just like the rest of the World however, there are issues like crime and violence, corruption, and poverty. A song with a message. If you missed our 4th pick, check it out here. Hear our 3rd pick below!

As 2017 comes to a close, we look back at a few songs that were favourites on the Blog for the year. While we can’t name EVERY one, we’ll give you 5 (in no particular order so hold off on the ego) to reminisce on, or get familiar with.

Starting at #5, is “Meanwhile” by the duo of Recording Artists Leno Banton and Royal Blu. Produced by JLL, the track was released in March and features the Artists going bar for bar, and pound for pound like two Heavyweight contenders in the ring. With a mix of lyrics, flows and melodies from the two, it would’ve been nice to get a collaborative EP from them next year (hint hint). Artwork provided by Paige Zxmbie and Khari Kamau. Bless up, check out “Meanwhile” below.

Canada based Rapper Solyd Roy says “No more parties in JA” as he drops a new tune! Titled “Nuttin’ Good“, this is produced by K, Le Maestro and finds the Rapper being a terrible role model all while picking up the pace and having fun on this sample driven beat. If aren’t familiar with Solyd, we featured one of his tracks, “Cruff Daddy” last year. With an EP in the making, you might be hearing him more in the near future. A remix to this track would be fire though. Cover art by ShotByDeth. Whether you’re a goody two shoes, or a good for nothing individual, treat your ears to this below!
