The Summer holidays are over, but in this Covid 19 world, everyone’s stuck inside. With Schools and jobs handling (most) things the online way, we’re seeing the “new norm” everyday. Nonetheless, creators create, and many of them released music in time for Summer 2020 in Jamaica. Today, we look back at a few tracks that were released in the 2nd Volume of the “Las’ Lick Playlist“!

Following up the 2018 Playlist, this 2020 edition features 32 tracks from Jamaican artists. Whether your taste is Dancehall, Reggae, Pop, or Hip Hop, you get dope offerings from emerging artists like Royal Blu, Leno Banton, Blvk H3ro, and Skillibeng, to established acts like Protoje, Beenie Man, Aidonia, Vybz Kartel, and Popcaan, to new acts like Marcilli, Prizal, Niyne, and GyalKapone. On September 11, 2020, the world lost a legend named Toots Hibbert. A pioneer in Jamaican music, he has been heralded near and far as the inventor of Reggae. His contributions to music are vast, and he and The Maytals have inspired generations. Up until news of his failing health, he was working on music and performing. Yesterday we paid tribute to him by highlighting the song that gave Reggae its name. Today, we highlight some of the songs that sampled and covered Toots & The Maytals through our latest Playlist.

From Foxy Brown, to Vanilla Ice, to Tone-Loc, to Lucky Dube, to Romain Virgo, you can relive the moments you’ve heard the classic singles, and learn about the music that paid homage to the classics. Frederick Nathaniel Hibbert paved the way for many, and we respect and honour him over here. Thank you for your life, your music, and your energy Toots Hibbert. Walk good!

We Look Back At Some “Bobby Digital” Dixon Productions In Our Throwback Playlist!

It’s been a while, but we’re back with a new Playlist. More importantly, a #13thStreetThrowback Playlist! On May 21, Jamaica lost one of its greatest Producers, Robert Dixon a.k.a. “Bobby Digital”. A man who conquered a unique style of production and is a founding father of the global Dancehall movement, Bobby Digital and his Digital B label blessed the likes of Shabba Ranks, Morgan Heritage, Buju Banton, Admiral Tibet, Sizzla, Bounty Killa, Beenie Man, Garnett Silk, and many others with the sounds that scored chart topping success, Grammy wins, and various certifications. Today, we pay homage to this great man with a new Throwback Playlist. From the 80s to the 90s and beyond, we give you some of the classics, and a few songs that sampled those classics. We Pay Tribute To The Late @_KennyRogers In Reggae Style

While the world is on standby with this Coronavirus Pandemic, the music scene woke up to news of the passing of Country Music Icon, Kenny Rogers. With a career spanning decades, the legend passed away on March 20 at the age of 81. One Country that mourns his passing is Jamaica as his music touched many people of all ages through the years. Like Canadian Singer Celine Dion, Kenny Rogers became an honorary Jamaican, and was emulated by many Artists including the late Moses Samuels a.k.a. “Reggae Rogers“, a popular Recording Artist/MC from Clarendon. Kenny Rogers even set up shop here with his “Kenny Rogers Roasters” franchises. Today, we pay tribute to this great man with a collection of Reggae covers by some of your favourite Artists.

Today’s Valentine’s Day! While many couples will be color coordinating and sharing gifts and quality time, there will be a lot of loners today. While reasons vary for the loners, it’s gonna be a long day. With that said, we’ve released “The Lonely Valentine Playlist“!

Featuring 14 classic sad songs from Alton Ellis to Vybz Kartel, we’re going with the theme as we’ve previously catered to the couples (even the Dancehall ones), and even the sidechicks (click the linked text for the Playlists.). Hang in there loners, things might turn around in a crazy way today, or soon. To those who miss their love, we hope they give things another chance. It’s still all about love.
