Trini Creative Sarkastik Ambassador looks to make 2021 the year he increases his musical output. Having dabbled in other areas last year, we didn’t get to hear much music. Starting off the new year right, he gives listeners an early listen to the track, “Toxic“.

Produced by TDSK Productions and featuring Bajan Singer/Songwriter Rhea Layne, Sark and Rhea get at each other like a fighting couple as they speak about jealousy, insecurity, and plenty toxic behaviours between them. Many couples go through things like this daily, but Sark and Rhea just play it all out in a way that will have couples thinking over things and go forward with resolutions. As mentioned before, this an early listen as Sarkastik Ambassador looks to put some finishing touches and officially release this track later this year. Let us know what you think about it.

OLDIES SUNDAY: Sister Charmaine – No Disrespect (1990)

Today’s Oldies Sunday selection is dedicated to Dancehall Artist Sister Charmaine who passed away on January 5, 2021. Before the many prominent Queens of Dancehall, Sister Charmaine was one who held that title proudly. Today we go back in time to check out “No Disrespect“.

Released through Leggo Records in 1990, Sister Charmaine did plenty name dropping on this one as she shares the difficulty in catching a break in music. In a rather humorous way, she calls upon artists like Papa San, Admiral Bailey, General Trees, Little Lenny, Professor Nuts, Lt. Stitchie, Flourgon, Ninja Man, and many more for assistance in making her career as successful as theirs. From borrowing a Benz, to performing Obeah, to learning certain songs and moves, Sister Charmaine believes these were some of the methods her fellow artists used in getting a “buss“. The song was not made to disrespect the many artists mentioned, but to give her audience something to laugh about, and showcase her versatility. The song was featured on the “Live And Kickin’” compilation in 1990. A song we believed took a cue from “No Disrespect” was Ce’cile’s 2000 single, “Changez” where she called out male deejays, but for a rather different topic.

Walk Good Sister Charmaine!

OLDIES SUNDAY: Claudelle Clarke – I Saw The Light (1979)

With 2020 being a year filled with crazy events, it’s only right we start our first Oldies Sunday of 2021 on a Gospel note. Today’s selection comes from Gospel Music Icon Claudelle Clarke with the track, “I Saw The Light“.

Produced/Arranged by Alvin Ranglin and released through GG’s Records in 1979, this was a cover of “The King Of Country MusicHank Williams Sr.’s 1948 single. The song speaks of a backslider who looks back at the many things they have done before they see the light of God, and expresses how they feel after being saved. Before Claudelle Clarke’s version, “I Saw The Light” was already a Country Gospel standard, and was covered by the likes of Country Music Pioneer Ernest Tubb, Music Icon Pat Boone, Country Music Icon Willie Nelson, and many others. Claudelle Clarke’s version stood the test of time for being one of the best Jamaican Gospel songs ever made, and is still touching hearts to this day. The single was featured on Clarke’s 1979 album, “God Is A Mountain“.
